The seventh appointment of the MXGP World Championship took place at the famous and spectacular circuit of Saint Jean d’Angely, in an area where really good Cognac is produced, in France.
Other than the MX2 World Championship, in which Michele Cervellin and Maxime Renaux took part, the schedule also expected the third round of the EMX250 European Championship, where Andrea Adamo was present.
On Saturday the MX2 had Timed Practice and Qualifying Race in program, while the EMX250 also had Race 1 scheduled: Adamo gained an excellent 8thplace after a good recovery from the back. In 15 laps-time the young Team SM Action Yamaha rider moved up at least 20 positions.
In MX2 Timed Practice excellent 4thfastest lap time for Renaux, with half-a-second gap from the leader. Michele Cervellin was slower and he just touched the Top Ten with the 11thfastest lap time.
In Qualifying Race the riders swapped their positions. Cervellin started in the Top 5 and he finished 7th, while Renaux was 15thafter the first lap but he then moved up to the 10thplace.
Sunday started with Race 2 of the EMX250 European Championship. Adamo begun the race in the Top Ten but before finishing lap 1 another rider crashed ahead of him and he was forced to move to the very last place. He tried a comeback but the others were really far, so he was not able to reach the points-area.
After that race, MX2 Race 1 had its beginning. Michele Cervellin had an awesome start and he was just behind Jorge Prado, the leader, at turn 2. Michele kept that position for three laps, before being overtaken by Geerts. After three more laps Olsen overtook him too. While he was safe in 5thplace though, during the last lap he had a technical issue and he was forced to retire.
Maxime Renaux had a good start too. From the 9thplace he moved up to the 6thin seven laps-time, but then he had the same technical issue that occurred to Cervellin and he had to go to the box.
Race 2 went smoothier than Race 1. After lap 1 Maxime and Michele were 12thand 13th. Both stayed together for a few laps, until Maxime increased his speed and moved up to the Top Ten group. At the checkered flag Maxime was 9th(with only one second of gap from the 8thplace) while Michele just touched the Top Ten with the 11thposition.
The next appointment for Team SM Action Yamaha will be the third round of the Italian “Prestige” Championship, which will take place on the 2ndof June at Savignano sul Panaro circuit.
