Bike It DRT Kawasaki - Round 14 Report MXGP of Belgium
Dixon Racing Team
August 09th, 2019
Following a turbulent time at the Grand Prix of Czech Republic, Bike It DRT Kawasaki entered the fourteenth round of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship hungry for redemption. There was no doubt that the deep sand of Lommel was going to be difficult, of course, but Darian Sanayei rose to that challenge over the two days of racing.
A freak problem in qualifying cost him dearly, but he rebounded with a good start in the first points-paying race. Sanayei ended the opening lap in eleventh and really settled into that position. Although he lost some positions around the halfway point, he picked it back up near the end and clawed his way into the top ten. Tenth was the position that he secured at the chequered flag, despite his lack of bike fitness and his ongoing fight with the aftereffects of the Epstein-Barr virus.
A fall early on in the second race left Sanayei with a lot of work to do and once again he impressed. Thirtieth was the spot that he occupied after one lap and then, by the time that the chequered flag was out, he had worked his way into seventeenth and secured four more valuable points. Fourteenth was his ranking in the overall classification and he now runs twenty-second in the championship standings.
Gustavo Pessoa embraced that challenge of racing in the power-sapping sand of Lommel for the first time and made progress over the weekend. Pessoa got close to points in the first moto, as he reached the chequered flag in twenty-second, but then the second encounter was kinder to him, as he kept pushing until the very end and picked up two valuable points. Pessoa now sits in thirty-second in the championship standings.
Bike It DRT Kawasaki will now enjoy a weekend off, before tackling the hard-pack of Imola for round fifteen of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship.
Darian Sanayei - "I had a decent race day, the bike ran awesome all day! I Charged the whole moto to finish 10th in race 1 on a very demanding track. The second race was around 12/13 and fell on the second lap. I Couldn’t really get back on my bike till everyone passed, so went from last to catch up to 17th. It was hard work but I'm happy with how it went. I want to thank the Team for their support!"
Gustavo Pessoa - " I'm happy to add a few points at the hardest GP of the year, without any training in Belgium before the GP and during the year. I'm very happy to have overcome the weekend of many challenges"
Steve Dixon, Team Manager- "We haven't done any sand testing because Darian hasn't been able to ride, so I'm happy with 4 race finishes here at Lommel. We had some good starts too. Saturday, there were some setting issues with the bike once Darian started to go faster, which wasn't until the heat race. There was some bogging so he pulled out of the Qualifying. For race day, to finish round the demanding Lommel circuit was a big step for Darian with his fitness this year, and for Gustavo as he's never ridden here. Also both bikes working well without testing. This week will be the first test with WP aside from setups at the races. WP and the mechanics have worked hard with their experience at the weekends to make things work. We're now preparing for the last 4 GP's of the season."
