Bike It DRT Kawasaki - Round 1 Report Argentina
Dixon Racing Team
March 07th, 2018
With a new look for 2018, the young American (Darian Sanayei, 57) and the household British name (Tommy Searle, 100) set off to Argentina for the first round of the 2018 MXGP Championship.
The '57' instantly set the weekend rolling with second fastest in free practice, and would continue this pace throughout the weekend. A decent Qualifying race, finishing in 5th after working his way from a few places back, would set Darian up for the following day.
An incredibley impressive first race saw the finely tuned Cosworth DRT KX250f blast into the lead for several laps, until 2017 MX2 Champion Jonass would take the front spot. It was then an unfourtunate technical issue that would cause the '57' to retire from race one. Eager to get back out, Sanayei put on an equally skilled race two, bringing home a third place in the final moto to secure a solid 20 points.
A solid 12th place in qualifying would be the starting point for searle over the race weekend, with race one consisting largely of battles with Glen Coldenhoff and fellow brit Max Anstie. Eventually he was able to secure a top ten finish, bringing home the KX450f in 9th place. An unlucky start saw the Brit have his work cut out to manuevere the field, working his way from back in 23rd at the end of the first lap to an eventual 13th place, giving him an 11th place overall in the championship at the end of round 1.
The team will now head back to the UK to compete in the British Championship at Lyng, before embarking on the first European tour, starting with the sandy Valkenswaard circuit.
