A Grand Prix of Spain with a sweet and unforgettable flavor.
Santiago de Compostela hosted the third round of the Enduro World Championship in a long and tough race with one extreme test on a hard ground, one cross test with marshes and one soft enduro test.
In Spain Team JET-Zanardo proved to be one of the top teams of the Enduro World Championship in strongly conditioned by the bad weather and the heavy rain of the days before the race. In Santiago de Compostela, in fact, the team shone with Giacomo Redondi, the only Italian on the first step of the podium in a weekend signed by the English riders. Fast and determined to make a step forward after two running- in GPs, in Spain he got the third position on Saturday and the first on Sunday in a hard-fought E2 class. A well-deserved success, which made Redondi as the best Italian of the weekend with one sixth and one extraordinary third place in the EnduroGP classification too. Now Redondi is third in the world standing. Two fourth positions close to the top three for the Chilean Ruy Barbosa in the Junior EJ2 class.
Fifth and sixth the English Joe Wootton, who on Saturday finished eighth close to the top riders of the EnduroGP, but for the whole weekend suffered the strong heat.
Next race is the fifth round of the Enduro Italian Championship, scheduled on 1st-2nd June in Sant’Angelo in Vado (PU).
“Riders’ level in the World Championship is getting higher and higher. In Germany we were a bit unlucky, then we work to improve and in Portugal I managed to make a good result. Here in Spain I made a few too many crashes on Saturday, but on Sunday I get my first win of the season and in the E2 class. I dedicate this success to my mother Judi! I’m starting to get used to my Husqvarna FE 450: thanks to the team for the excellent job!”.
“Saturday was a tough day with many crashes: we made some changes to the bike but I did not feel good enough. On Sunday I managed to push a bit more and be faster. I felt comfortable on this kind of ground but I still need to improve my feeling with the bike to be competitive. Thanks to the whole team for their great job”.
“On Saturday I felt good in the first special tests and I got excellent times. On Sunday the ground was different and I struggled more. I would like to thank the team for good job: we are growing”.
“Redondi is improving and today he achieved an outstanding victory against champions such as Salvini, Larrieu and Remes. I didn’t expect a victory so soon and this is the proof of the great job done by the team. Wootton was very well on Saturday with the eighth overall position, while on Sunday he suffered from the heat. Barbosa struggled after the sensational start in the Supertest of Friday evening: the goal is to increase the feeling. We are very satisfied with the bikes and the work we’re developing”.
